Swimming at state

Andrew Rodriguez gives a thumbs-up before competing.

The Ripon Community Swim Club participated in the long course state swim meet at the Walter Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer. Participants from the Ripon team included Marcel Hones, Grace Rondorf, Andrew Rodriguez and Quynlan Duffy.

Swimmers qualify for the competition by meeting specific standards during the course of the season set by the Wisconsin Swimming Organization. The long course competition takes place in a 50 meter pool (slightly twice the length of the HS and College pools). Swimmers can swim up to seven events through the course of the weekend.

Duffy and Hones each participated in seven events, with Duffy finishing 12th overall in the 10 and under boys bracket. Hones finished 52nd in the 12 and under boys bracket. Rodriguez competed in four events while Rondorf competed in two.

Duffy finished in the top 10 in the following events: 400 freestyle, 4th-place, with a time of 5 minutes, 32.26 seconds; 100 butterfly, 7th, 1:29.72; 200 freestyle, 6th, 2:37.99; and 50 butterfly, 5th, 37.20.
