Just three years after joining forces, the Princeton/Green Lake (PGL) boys’ track and field team reached new heights, finishing third at the WIAA State Track and Field Championships last weekend.
The Tiger Sharks scored 36.5 points, which was fewer than seven points behind runner-up Marathon and eight back of state champion Edgar. The meet was held at Veterans Memorial Stadium in La Crosse, Wis.
“I had high expectations knowing what we had coming [into the season] and [was] just trying to fit the pieces together,” PGL co-head coach Blair Weir said. “It was exciting.”
Green Lake senior Matt Van Scyoc, who already committed to playing basketball at The Citadel next season, led the way in his final high school competition.
Van Scyoc made it on the podium in all four of his events.
He was the state champion in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.17 seconds, finished second with his teammates in the 800 relay, placed third with his team in the 1,600 relay and jumped to a fourth-place finish in the long jump.
