Tiger volleyball takes second in bronze division at UW-O

Taylor Dorsey goes up for a spike.

The Tiger volleyball team made progress on the second day of the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Showdown last week Saturday.

Ripon played in four games on the second day, narrowly missing the bronze division championship.

Ripon defeated Southern Door, Gibralter and Kenosha St. Joe’s on the day, pitting them in a rematch with Southern Door for the bronze division championship. Unfortunately, the team dropped both games, 22-25 and 23-25 to finish in second place in the division.

The Tigers were placed in the bronze division after a rough first day last week Friday that saw them win only one of four games. Ripon lost in two sets to Bayport, Tomahawk and Denmark before defeating Baraboo in three sets.

Coach Tracy Landerman was pleased with the improvement her team made on the second day of the tournament, but would have liked to win the bronze title.

“We beat them [Southern Door] earlier in the day and we should have beat them in the championship game,” Landerman said. “What hurt us in the end against Southern Door was the serving.”
