Tiger wrestlers out-matched by Freedom

It was a tough way for the young Tiger wrestling team to begin the season — against state-ranked Freedom.

Ripon only came away with one forfeit victory in a 75-6 loss to the Irish to open the dual meet season in Ripon.

“Freedom is an experienced team, coming in with a lot of upperclassmen,” coach Mark Bradley said. “We just didn’t have the experience and ability to keep up with them.”

The Tigers only victory came in a forfeit in the 103-pound weight class with Tyler Resop. Nine Ripon wrestlers were pinned on the night.

The Irish are a favorite to win the Eastern Valley Conference and possibly go further.

Although it was a tough night, Bradley’s athletes fought the whole night.

“Even though we lost, the kids kept trying hard,” he said. “Everyone kept fighting and kept working.

“We need to get better and keep working hard. Freedom came in and was more aggressive and physical. They took us out of any type of offense we had. That’s what we need to do with our opponents.”
