As Ripon High School and Winneconne faced off last week Friday night, it was a battle for entrance to the playoffs.

At 4-2, each team needed just one more win to secure a spot in a WIAA Level 1 tournament game.

Both teams played like contenders, but only one actually earned a ticket to the playoffs.

Ripon (5-2) topped Winneconne (4-3) 30-20 after a flurry of fourth-quarter scores and a balanced attack.

The Tigers regained the lead early and never relinquished it — a true feat considering its patchwork offensive line that needed yet another patch last week Friday.

Up next will be Little Chute, which will come visit Ripon Friday, Oct. 16 at 7 p.m.
