Ripon Travel Guide

Known for its downtown attractions, live music shows and historic sites, the city of Ripon offers a little something for everyone.

From participating in local democracy to hanging out at a community event, there’s a lot to look forward to in the Ripon-area this week.

Public meetings:

  • The Ripon Common Council meets Monday at 7 p.m. in the City Hall Council Chambers.
    • It will discuss updates regarding the Murray Park Senior Center/Trailhead project, the Vermont Street/Parkway Terrace reconstruction as well as the 2022 budget timeline.
  • The Green Lake Plan Commission meets at 4 p.m. Monday in the Green Lake City Hall Council Room.
    • It will discuss an application for a conditional use permit from Russell C & Jacqueline G. Stading for 561 Gold Street to replace the existing boathouse. It will consider a certified survey map for Egbert Excavating, W1302 North Lawson Drive.

Tuesday, Aug. 24 — Cones with Cops:

Ripon Police Department is partnering with Sweet n’ Saulty Ice Cream Parlor to bring the community ice cream.

In conjunction with National Night Out, the police department has decided to bring the night to the neighborhoods.

On Tuesday, Aug. 24 police officers will serve ice cream and hang out in the parks. Officers will be in Barlow Park from 5 to 6 p.m. and Selfridge Park from 6:15 to 7:15 p.m.

“If you live in the area of that park, come down to the park and join us for some ice cream,” Community Liaison Officer Lindsey Michels said. “On the nights we will be serving ice cream, the police car will be escorting the ice cream truck through the neighborhoods, so listen for the ice cream music and sirens to remind you to come to the park and get some ice cream.”

RASD offering COVID vaccine clinic

The Pfizer COVID Vaccine will be available to anyone 12 and over at Ripon High School on Wednesday, Aug. 25 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at a Walk-In Clinic provided by the Fond du Lac County Health Department.

Future of Rush Lake meeting

Rush Lake Watershed Restoration, Inc. (RLWRI) is hosting a meeting Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Nepeuskun Town Hall to discuss a potential project.

A consultant spoke on behalf of Ducks Unlimited at RLWRI’s April 2021 meeting.

They communicated that over $250,000 in grants have been awarded to them to conduct large-scale burning and more on Rush Lake in the near future.

Yoga in the Vineyard

Vines & Rushes will host its last Yoga in the Vineyard class Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Gentle/Vinyasa flow-style yoga class appropriate for most levels will be offered. Class will be led by a rotation of Lotus Root Yoga instructors certified by Yoga Alliance.

“The weekly class will be held outdoors near the grapevines. In the case of inclement weather, class will be cancelled. Please bring your own yoga mat, sunglasses and water.

Community price of $5 per class,” The Winery said. “Please pay outside with cash (exact change if possible). Lotus Root Yoga passes may also be used.”

After yoga, purchase a glass of wine, check out the chef's menu specials and relax on the patio. Vines & Rushes offers a variety of beverages and food items.

The winery is open until 9 pm. Carry-ins of food and beverages are not allowed.

BBQ Cookout & Jam Session

White Lake Beach Resort in Montello will host a BBQ Cookout & Jam Session Tuesday from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

“Join us for our All You Care To Eat BBQ Cookout and Live Music Jam Session,” its website says. “Bar opens at 4 p.m. BBQ and music starts at 7 p.m.”

Emmer Loves Local

Hosted by Emmer Real Estate Group, the new monthly event series celebrates the Green Lake community.

Emmer Real Estate Group is celebrating Green Lake and the end of summer with drinks, snacks and a raffle.

Wednesday, Aug. 25 — Red Cross blood drive:

The Green Lake American Legion, 518 Water St., will host an American Red Cross blood drive from 12 to 5:30 p.m.

Individuals may schedule an appointment by downloading the free Blood Donor App, visiting www.RedCrossBlood.org, calling 800-RED CROSS (800-733-2767) or enabling the Blood Donor Skill on any Alexa Echo device.

DJ Trivia Thursday

Knuth Brewing Co. will host DJ Trivia Thursday from 6:30 to 8 p.m. It is a free event that will award participants for their knowledge.

First through third place winners will be awarded gift cards. Knuth Brewing Co. describes the event as “always free, always fun.”

“Come join the fun with friends,” the brewery’s website said of the event.

Goose Blind Grill & Bar DJ Trivia Thursday

Goose Blind Grill & Bar will host DJ Trivia Thursday from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

“Sign up with your family and/or friends! The live DJ Trivia host will display the questions on TV and offer up a variety of interesting trivia categories including: Movies, History, Music, TV, Science, and more,” the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce website said of the event. “First, second and third places will get Prizes!”
